In a momentous collaboration unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in San Jose, California, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd and Google Cloud announced a revolutionary multi-year partnership. The endeavor marks Samsung as the pioneer Google Cloud partner to introduce Google Cloud’s cutting-edge generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology to a global audience through their smartphone devices, starting with the eagerly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24 series.

The centerpiece of this alliance is the deployment of Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI via the cloud, a groundbreaking move that sets Samsung apart as an industry trailblazer. Janghyun Yoon, Corporate EVP and Head of Software Office of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, expressed his excitement, stating, “Google and Samsung have long shared deeply-held values around the importance of making technology more helpful and accessible for everyone.”

The Galaxy S24 series will lead the way as the first smartphones equipped with Gemini Pro and Imagen 2 on Vertex AI. Gemini Pro, a multimodal AI developed to seamlessly understand and operate across diverse information types, promises a transformative user experience. Samsung-native applications, such as Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard, will harness Gemini Pro’s summarization features. This deployment also ensures critical Google Cloud features, including security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.

Imagen 2, Google’s cutting-edge text-to-image diffusion technology, takes photo editing to unprecedented levels. Integrated into the S24’s Gallery application, Imagen 2 on Vertex AI empowers users with safe and intuitive editing capabilities.

The partnership doesn’t stop here; Samsung is among the first to explore Gemini Ultra, Google’s most advanced and capable model designed for highly complex tasks. Complementing this, the S24 series will leverage Gemini Nano, an on-device Language Model (LLM) delivered as part of the Android 14 operating system, ensuring efficiency for on-device tasks.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, emphasized the vast opportunities presented by generative AI in creating meaningful mobile experiences. “With Gemini, Samsung’s developers can leverage Google Cloud’s world-class infrastructure, cutting-edge performance, and flexibility to deliver safe, reliable, and engaging generative AI powered applications on Samsung smartphone devices,” he stated.

This collaboration signifies a transformative step toward making advanced AI technologies accessible to millions, promising a new era of connectivity and communication through Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series.
