The Weeknd and Blue Bottle Debut Two Fresh Ethiopian Single Origin Coffees

By Wolf

The Weeknd continues to expand his collaboration with Australian coffee artisan Blue Bottle. Earlier this summer, the musician and the coffee company unveiled their joint venture, Samra Origins, a homage to The Weeknd’s mother. Since then, they’ve introduced an instant hot coffee and cold brew, along with an official merchandise line.

Now, The XO singer is unveiling the Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 1 and Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 2. The beans for Vol. 1 are sourced from the Hambela Estate in Ethiopia, undergoing a natural processing method that results in a robust, fruity flavor profile. On the other hand, Vol. 2 features a washed process, where the organic components are removed from the coffee bean, delivering a cleaner and lighter taste.

Reflecting on his Ethiopian heritage, The Weeknd expressed his pride in collaborating with Blue Bottle Coffee to spotlight Ethiopian traditions, values, and, of course, coffee. Recalling his childhood experiences of witnessing his mother perform the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, Buna Tetu, The Weeknd emphasized how this sensory ritual shaped his appreciation for community and instilled a deep sense of honoring his roots.

Describing Samra Origins as a genuine passion project, The Weeknd hopes it will kindle curiosity and garner support for the people of Ethiopia while spreading the warmth and camaraderie inherent in Ethiopian culture.

The Weeknd x Blue Bottle’s Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 1 and Samra Origins Single Origin Vol. 2 will be available online starting Monday, December 4, priced at $22 USD per bag.
